personal commentary

Since I'm still kind of confused on how to access the other blog, i'll write my commentary here. This week we met tuesday, wednesday, and thursday to begin our visioning process and storyboarding. For visioning, we used our affinity diagram to come up with different solutions to problems our users had encountered, and during storyboarding we were able to detail the sequence of steps our users would take in the newly designed website. This week we'll probably start on our UED and paper prototypes.

p.commentary, wk 6

Last week our group finished up our work models and began constructing the affinity diagram as well as consolidate our models. We held meetings on monday through thursday. Tuesday through thursday we met up at Zach's house; I helped work on the affinity diagram as well as the cultural model with Elisa. We tried looking at all the individual cultural models of our users and tried to incorporate the general and other significant influencers on the user from these models. I also helped look over the consolidated sequence model. This week, we have planned to meet and discuss visioning, storyboarding, and making the UED, as well as work on the group data presentation. We also will work on other physical/artifact models we need to do and to "walk" the consolidated data we have so each of us will have a better understanding of the problems and the issues that we need to be aware of to move on with the re-design process.

PC for week 6

On Monday, Professor Hollan stopped by our weekly on campus meeting and evaluated our progress with some helpful comments/suggestions. Later that day I finished, refined, and printed out the sequence models for users three and four and emailed them to Elisa to look over.
Tuesday night we met at Zach's place and extracted (from our interpretation session notes) any significant problems or comments from the users and wrote them each on a post-it. After we had finished going through all of the users, we began posting and organizing them on the wall until we saw some categories start to form (and reform…).
On Wednesday, I helped in starting the consolidation of the sequence models and we came up with a summary of the sequence models for users one through five, and nine.
This coming Monday we will meet again at 11am in Solis 111 to discuss the presentation for this week as well as future meeting times to start working on the UED, storyboards, and prototype.

personal commentary 5/13

On Monday we had our data and different work models evaluated by Professor Holland. On Tuesday I worked on the affinity diagram with the team. Each of us chose two of our interviewed users to make post-its on, and later we categorized all of our post-its into a sensible affinity diagram. On Thursday, I worked w/ the team on creating presentations for the following week and reviewed sequence and cultural consolidation models that clarisse and angela had worked on. After doing our presentations we plan to walk through our affinity diagram, start thinking of UED, storyboards, etc.

Personal Commentary

On wednesday evening (5/9/06), Clarisse and I worked on a draft for the consolidated cultural model. Friday afternoon(5/11/07), I assembled and wrote the content for seven power point slides concerning the data colleceted thus far:

1. Cover Page
2. Members
3. Interviews: Who and Why?
4. Interviews: How
5. Questioning
6. Example (U4 in a nutshell)
7. Data Summary

This coming week (with the help of other team members), I plan to work on more slides for our presentation on thursday. The consolidated cultural model will be complete along with the rest of the consolidated models. We will walk through the affinity diagram and start brainstorming.

The Butterfly's Contribution

Hello!

For this week I created a sequence model for user 6, helped create the affinity diagram, and helped consolidate a flow model.

The sequence model was pretty simple to make because I and another member interviewed user 6. During the interview, I tooks notes of most of the actions of the user. My notes were a written "history" of which sites the user visited as well as comments and side notes that I thought was important.

In making the affinity diagram, I reviewed one of the user's file and recorded notable problems and frustrations on a post-it. When everyone finished making post its, we began organizing similar post-its across all users together. This helped us identify major areas of website design as well as many problems users suffer from.

With the completion of the affinity diagram, our group began consolidation. I worked with Zach to consolidate a flow model. We focused on the transfer of information between users, with a website acting as a "middle man"

This upcoming week, I plan on making a major contribution for the presentation. It will give me a chance to work on my public speaking skills.

Wednesday Summary

Consolidated Cultural, Sequence, and Flow Models...

Tuesday, May 8, 2007

Week 6

Hopefully, for this week, we can complete consolidation of the models and do a successful affinity diagram. =)

So far: interviewed 9 users.
Created a flow model, cultural model for each user.

Need to do physical models of each. We've decided to take screenshots of each of the main websites the users seemed to respond to the most. Of course, this is just a suggestion. We don't have to do ALL of them. Only the most important ones we feel is useful.

U1- SW: facebook
U2- JC: livejournal, ratatat, peg, eventful
U3- SE: calendar of events
U4- TR: tritonlink, rec classes
U5- RO: ucsd.edu, guardian
U6- Cal: calendar of events
U7- BO: studentflyers
U8- HoBo: Hollywood Bowl calendar
U9- EL: gmail, facebook

Artifact models:
U1: facebook invitation and RSVP tools
U2: tabs, avatars/icons
U7: search engines
U8: calendars
U9: bookmarks

Friday, Sunday, and Monday Meets

Monday, May 7

Today, Prof. Hollan came to our weekly meeting:) He gave us some advice on how we can proceed from where we are now. As of now, we have user data, some work models, and a general sense of our users and their problems and some design ideas. Consolidating all this data will hopefully give us a better understanding of the problems that come across our users and other issues that will help re-define our focus. We also disscussed other times to meet this week to finish up work models and start consolidating all the user data.

Sunday, May 6

On Sunday, interpretation sessions of interviews were finished and we continued to work on work models for each user, mostly focused on flow and cultural models. We asked a TA/Prof. to join our meeting on monday.

Friday, May 5

This past week we conducted more interviews and met on friday to conduct interpretation sessions of those interviews. We also started to make various work models, such as the sequence models.

Monday's Meeting

Today we met up in Solis 111 for our weekly meeting. A. Park had invited the wonderful TA Tiffany to join us. We talked with one another and ran an interpretation session infront of the TA to make sure we are on the right track.
I think we learned:
- how to manage an interpretation section
- more about constructing work models

We concluded our meeting by setting up more interview times for this week.

The Butterfly

Group Blog

creation of the group blog to begin documentation of weekly or so meetings, progress, etc.

Our last meeting, Friday the 27th

On Friday, we met up and held an interpretation session. We had each pair discuss their interview findings and walk through what they noticed. During the recap, each member would ask questions to clarify certain areas to help them create a work model. Next week we will continue our contextual interviews, interpretation sessions and work modeling. More to come!
