The language he used to make the facebook app is Php, a recursive acrynoym for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. From my understanding, it is a scripting language that creates server side commands to make an html page.

When reading a tutorial on PHP, the article directed me to another tutorial on Web Hosting and MYSQL.

Web Hosting tutorial goes over the basics of the types of web hosting servers and their possible uses. It talks about buying a domain name, bandwidth issues, backup, and other essentials.

The tutorials for PHP and MySQL were much longer. I skimmed through them, but I didn't get a chance to try out any of the samples codes because I don't have my own web server...

personal commentary

Since I'm still kind of confused on how to access the other blog, i'll write my commentary here. This week we met tuesday, wednesday, and thursday to begin our visioning process and storyboarding. For visioning, we used our affinity diagram to come up with different solutions to problems our users had encountered, and during storyboarding we were able to detail the sequence of steps our users would take in the newly designed website. We held meetings on monday through thursday. Tuesday through thursday we met up at Zach's house; I helped work on the affinity diagram as well as the cultural model with Elisa. We tried looking at all the individual cultural models of our users and tried to incorporate the general and other significant influencers on the user from these models. I also helped look over the consolidated sequence model. This week, we have planned to meet and discuss visioning, storyboarding, and making the UED, as well as work on the group data presentation. We also will work on other physical/artifact models we need to do and to "walk" the consolidated data we have so each of us will have a better understanding of the problems and the issues that we need to be aware of to move on with the re-design process.
[clarisse m]

Monday Meeting and Plans for Week 7

MONDAY MEETING
Settled on meeting times:
Tues, Wed, Thurs @ 5pm in Geisel Science & Engineering Library.

To-do list:
1. On Tuesday I worked on the affinity diagram with the team. Each of us chose two of our interviewed users to make post-its on, and later we categorized all of our post-its into a sensible affinity diagram. On Thursday, I worked w/ the team on creating presentations for the following week and reviewed sequence and cultural consolidation models that clarisse and angela had worked on. After doing our presentations we plan to walk through our affinity diagram, start thinking of UED, storyboards, etc.

-takashi

Personal Commentary (5.13)- Angela Park

PAST WEEK

saturday (5/5/07): reviewed videotaped interview with U2-JC in order to create sequence model

monday (5/7/07): met with Professor Hollan at weekly meeting at 11:00am.

wednesday (5/9/07):
1. created U9- EL sequence model
2. met at 5:00 at Zach’s place
3. consolidated sequence model for U1-5, U9 with Hosoo

thursday (5/10/07):
1. met at 8:30 at Zach’s place
2. added U7, U8 to consolidated sequence model
3. started a summary of consolidated sequence model

sunday (5/13/07):
1. added U6 to consolidated sequence model
2. refined general summary of sequence model

FUTURE
1. meet on Monday 11am in Solis 111
2. agenda: discuss meeting times for this week- possibly Tu-Thurs
3. discuss presentation progress
4. discuss future action- UED, interface, storyboards, prototypes
5. personally, perhaps start on an individual paper

Personal Commentary

On wednesday evening (5/9/06), Clarisse and I worked on a draft for the consolidated cultural model. During the interview, I tooks notes of most of the actions of the user. My notes were a written "history" of which sites the user visited as well as comments and side notes that I thought was important.

In making the affinity diagram, I reviewed one of the user's file and recorded notable problems and frustrations on a post-it. When everyone finished making post its, we began organizing similar post-its across all users together. This helped us identify major areas of website design as well as many problems users suffer from.

With the completion of the affinity diagram, our group began consolidation. I worked with Zach to consolidate a flow model. We focused on the transfer of information between users, with a website acting as a "middle man"

This upcoming week, I plan on making a major contribution for the presentation. It will give me a chance to work on my public speaking skills.

-A. As of now, we have user data, some work models, and a general sense of our users and their problems and some design ideas. Consolidating all this data will hopefully give us a better understanding of the problems that come across our users and other issues that will help re-define our focus. We also disscussed other times to meet this week to finish up work models and start consolidating all the user data.

Sunday, May 6

On Sunday, interpretation sessions of interviews were finished and we continued to work on work models for each user, mostly focused on flow and cultural models. We asked a TA/Prof. to join our meeting on monday.

Friday, May 5

This past week we conducted more interviews and met on friday to conduct interpretation sessions of those interviews.
